I've tried to read this book three times. I've never gotten more than 10 percent of the way through. I purchased book one soon after it was released. I tried again after an edit. It has now been edited again, so I tried again. I even bought the bundle, thinking maybe my Kindle wasn't updating to the edited version.In truth, a good book is more than good grammar. It is the ability to build a relatable story. Even when that story is fantastical it still must be internally consistent and well built.As an example, the main character is poor. So poor that she cannot always afford food (in the form of crackers, which can cost about $3.50 a box and provide multiple meals). Yet in the same scene, she goes to the fridge and pulls out bottle of water. Cheapest water bottles are $1 a bottle. Sink water is free (I assume they have running water, as she showers at home). If not, she would keep bottles and fill them at school where water IS free. Ten pages later she pulls out a chemical ice pack (the kind you break and shake). Those are really expensive. She has a fridge that runs (not all poor people do) and water bottles, she'd put water in the freezer not use an expensive chemical pack. She's just not believability poor. This is after the strange line where she says "the other day I was reading about broken ribs". Why? Who does that?!? If she's had them broken before, fine. But that's not what the story says, rather here is an implausibly built MC who randomly reads about first aid. It's this a hobby? Class assignment? Foreseeing the future? Makes no sense. You have to build a story where I understand the characters actions, not one where I have to make up half the story in my head simply for it to make sense.It's only one example, and the story is littered with them. None of this is written in a way that drags me into the story and makes me want more. It's hard to read a story when every other page you find a "huh, that wouldn't happen" problem. The story and characters are interesting. If you can ignore the many, many typos the author's voice is good. But if typos annoy you avoid this series. There are no bad cliffhangers at the end of each book, however, this is more like the beginning of another series and the end leaves you with a ton of questions and no answers. Ms. Parmenter, please learn the difference between to and too, their and they're,and when things should be possessive or not. Brush up on coma usage as well or get a much better editor. There was a lot of potential with this series, the world you created was intriguing, but you won't be taken seriously with typos on almost every single page.
